Founder
In 1977, I took my first step into entrepreneurship, starting this company out of my mother’s garage on Barjode Road in Willowick, Ohio. At just 19 years old, I became the first and only employee, driven by a desire to build something of my own. I never second-guessed my decision, never looked back, and poured everything I had into making it work. The automotive industry was vastly different back then, and those who remember the cars of the late ‘70s can truly appreciate just how much things have changed over the years.
From the very beginning, D&S Automotive was built on customization. Sunroofs, custom paint jobs, interior work—whatever someone wanted, I made it happen. The constant evolution of the business was what made it exciting, and I quickly realized that adapting to change was the key to success. I always pushed the company to be at the forefront of the industry, staying ahead of trends and setting the standard in every market we entered.
Fifteen years ago, my son, CJ Paterniti, stepped in to take the reins, bringing with him a new passion and a fresh vision for the future. Watching his leadership transform the company has been nothing short of inspiring. Under his guidance, D&S Automotive has reached new heights, earning recognition from industry experts and consistently ranking among the top 3% of businesses in our field. His relentless drive to improve every single day has cemented our place as a leader in the automotive service industry.
With that said, I am incredibly proud to share that in January 2023, we finalized an agreement for CJ to officially purchase D&S Automotive from me. This transition is not just a business move; it’s a milestone that fills me with gratitude and confidence. CJ has worked tirelessly for this opportunity, and I have no doubt that he will continue to elevate the company to even greater success. He has earned this moment, and I have complete faith in his ability to lead D&S Automotive into the future.
Although I am stepping down as CEO, I won’t be disappearing entirely. I will remain involved in a half-retirement capacity, serving as a financial consultant for the company. This new chapter will allow me to enjoy more personal time, splitting my days between Ohio and Florida while still contributing to the business I built from the ground up. It’s an exciting time for both D&S Automotive and for me personally, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for CJ, the company, and the incredible team that has made it all possible.
